A LITTLE HELP, AT YOUR OWN PACE

Support & FAQ

Get the music going, make a room your own, or find an answer when something feels off.

Listening on the website

Use an internet connection to open Lofi Years and load its rooms. Music is generated in your browser.

A new visit stays silent until you press Start listening or tap a year. Once you have paused, switching years keeps the music paused until you press Play.

Listening in the iPhone or iPad app

The installed app includes its rooms, artwork and music generation on your device. Normal listening works offline. Select a year and press Play to begin.

It does not send custom usage analytics or listening statistics to our servers. Opening public website or social links requires a connection and uses that site's own data practices.

The iPhone and iPad app is not yet publicly available. For now, you can listen free on the website without an account.

Getting started

  1. Choose a year for a different room and musical style. On the website, your first year tap also starts the music. The Halloween chapel is a separate room.
  2. Set Music and Ambience independently. Music changes the tune's volume; Ambience changes the room sounds.
  3. Move Vibe from Mellow through Flow to Lively to change the room's musical energy and tempo. Start in the middle, then adjust to taste.

On smaller screens, open Room tools to find room settings, sharing, radio, mixtapes and the sleep timer. The chapel has its own discoveries and quest.

No sound?

  1. Press Play or Start listening directly. A browser can wait for your tap before it allows audio.
  2. Raise your device's media volume, then check the Music and Ambience sliders. If both are at zero, playback is silent.
  3. Check your audio output. Sound may be going to connected Bluetooth headphones, a speaker or another selected output.
  4. If the room shows an audio error, press Play to retry. On the website, check your connection and reload if needed. Reloading does not start music automatically.

If sound stopped after a call, Siri or an output change, return to the room and press Play again. If it keeps happening, send the details below so we can investigate.

Frequently asked questions

Can the music keep playing with the screen locked?

Installed iPhone and iPad app: after you start playback, it supports listening while the screen is locked or another app is open. You can pause or resume through the system media controls. Calls, Siri or other audio can interrupt playback; press Play again if needed.

Website: keep the tab open. Background and locked-screen playback depend on your browser and device, which may pause audio.

How does the sleep timer work?

Start playback, open Sleep timer, then choose 15, 30 or 60 minutes. Music and ambience fade over the final 12 seconds before pausing. The timer is off until you choose a duration.

Cancel timer keeps the music playing. Pausing manually cancels an active timer. When a timer finishes, press Play to listen again; your volume settings stay the same.

In a browser, keep the tab open. Your phone may pause background audio before the timer finishes.

How do the hour, weather and local-time controls work?

Each year has a day and night atmosphere with its own labels. Follow local time uses your device clock: day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and night otherwise. It does not need your location.

Choosing an hour manually turns Follow local time off. A shared link with an explicit hour uses that hour for the visit. Enable Follow local time again whenever you want the room to follow your clock.

The 1996 and 2026 rooms offer Clear, Rain or Storm. This is a room setting, not a live weather forecast.

Can I move between years automatically or save a mixtape?

Start playback in the main years, then open Radio & mixtapes from Room tools. Time-travel radio moves between rooms. Choose Stay here when you want to remain in the current one.

Personal mixtapes let you arrange at least two years, choose each stop's Vibe and hour, and set 5, 10 or 15 minutes per stop. Saved tapes can loop. Choose Stay here to stop automatic travel while keeping the music playing.

Mixtapes are saved locally in that app or browser, with no Lofi Years account or cloud sync. They do not automatically appear on another device. Clearing website data or deleting the app can remove them. If local storage is unavailable, tapes last only for the current visit.

Will sharing a vibe share the exact song I am hearing?

Share this vibe creates a public website link with the room, hour and mix you choose, including weather where available. It shares the atmosphere and settings, rather than a recording or the exact sequence of notes. Every visit generates its own music.

You choose where to send the link. Anyone with it can read its settings. Opening it in a browser uses the website's privacy practices.

Can I turn off animation or use a keyboard?

Use Motion to turn room animation off or on. Lofi Years initially follows your device's reduced-motion preference unless you make an explicit choice.

Use Tab to move between controls and Enter or Space to activate buttons. Focus a slider and use the arrow keys to adjust it. You can enlarge text with your browser's controls or the installed app's supported device text settings.

If a control is hard to reach, read or use with assistive technology, please tell us the device, room and control involved.

What gets saved or reported?

Installed app: preferences, mixtapes and discoveries stay in its local storage. It has no custom analytics or listening reporting.

Website: local settings stay in your browser, while the listening pages use separate visitor and listening statistics and Google Analytics. The privacy policy explains those practices. This Support page loads no analytics, visitor counter, cookies or scripts; ordinary hosting access logs can still apply.
